Canada is making a major change in its Masters Degree Work Permit (BGWP) rules for international students seeking education in Canada starting this fall. PGWP allows international students to gain work experience in Canada after completing their academic program in a designated Canadian education. Company (DLI).
International students must have completed at least eight months of full-time program at DLI in order to qualify for the PGWP. Their study program must have a diploma, degree or certification. The deadline for PGWP depends on the duration of student study in Canada. Students can start the program online and come to Canada for up to 3 years with PGWP
Generally, online courses are not considered in the research requirement for PGWP application. However, considering the travel barriers associated with coronavirus in the world, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) now allows international students to study abroad and be able to apply for a work permit after receiving their diploma. The IRCC announced the reform on the evening of May 14, 2020. New international students will be able to start their projects online at Canadian ITD in the fall of 2020, complete the program up to 50% abroad, and then get a BGWP to work in Canada after completing their studies.
In a hypothetical scenario, a new international student may begin their program at Canadian DLI Online this fall, while they qualify for BGWP for a maximum of three years when they arrive in Canada by the end of 2020. At least two years of academic program qualification.
